Description: The collection contains 90 black and white postcards from USS Charleston (C-22/C19) during the First World War. Scenes shown include: the crossing to France in 1917, onboard photographs of various exercises, ice-breaking. Additional photographs show USS Leviathan, USS Mercy (ID-1305/AH-4), USS Montgomery (C-9), USS San Diego (C-6), wreck of USS Texas (BB-35), the captured German submarine U-258 at Brest, France, HMS Cornwall, and French Cruiser Glorieux. Eight other postcards show battle scenes at The Marne and July 4th celebrations in France during the First World War
