NHF-147 Vice Admiral Harold Bowen Sr. Collection

Approximately 300 photos, postcards, and negatives from the career of Vice Admiral Harold Bowen Sr. (1883-1965), who served as head of the Naval Research Laboratory and the Office of Naval Research. Originally donated by Bowen to the Naval Historical Foundation, and subsequently donated to the Naval History and Heritage Command. There are a few photos of his early life and career, but the preponderance of material is from his time as a flag officer. There are a significant number of posed portraits, as well as award ceremonies, meetings, and public events. A small selection of images show ship christenings and launchings. Some photos have been assigned NH numbers or were removed to the NH collection.
