Description: Collection of 34 photographs related to LCDR John Wesley Gibbs' naval service on Pearl Harbor from 1945-1946 & later images of officers from the Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) headquarters & course programs. LCDR Gibbs was stationed at Pearl Harbor from September of 1945 to mid-1946, manning the ferry across the Harbor. Photos of Pearl Harbor include the following docked ships: USS Pilotfish (SS-386), USS Parche (SS-384), USS Conway (DD-507), LST 818, LST 133, USS John W. Weeks (DD-701), USS Oklahoma (BB-37), USS Radford (DD-446), and USS Chevalier (DD-451). Also included are a selection of unidentified ships in the harbor as well as general harbor views. Japanese submarines I-401 and I-400, having been to Hawaii by U.S. Navy technicians for further inspection following the war, are docked in Pearl Harbor. There are also several personal photos of Gibbs and his fellow sailors in Hawaii and in the city of Honolulu. The second topic of the collection consists of photos of officers from the Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) headquarters & various course programs ranging from 1945 to 1965. Gibbs is in one of the class photos from the V-12 Navy College Training Program in 1945.
