During a visit onboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) the artist was able to witness and document several female sailors at work in the Machine Shop (whom they affectionately called, “Ladies of the Lathe”) One of them was a welder-- Hull Tech 3rd Class Passineau. The artist was fascinated by the play of color and light as she went to work joining several pieces of metal.
