Until World War II, most women who served in the Navy were nurses or yeomen. “Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service” could work as typist or clerical workers, but they could also have atypical duties in the aviation community, Judge Advocate General Corps, medical professions, communications, intelligence, science and technology.
