Clustered beneath the towering bulk of an Aleutian mountain, which is visible through a curtain of rain, are the mud roads and temporary buildings of the base at Kodiak. The windows at the right are equipped with wooden blackout boards permitting the windows to be opened at the top without showing light. The weather pictured here is typical of the region during the autumn months.
