WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) has taken the U.S. Navy's history show on the road to the Surface Navy Association Symposium, Jan. 13-15, open until 5 p.m. daily at the Crystal City Hyatt Regency.
At NHHC's booth, visitors can take a close-up look at Lego versions of Navy ships, see models and histories of the guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) and the guided-missile destroyer USS Gridley (DDG 101), peruse a few cruise books from the largest cruise book collection in the world, and pick up information about the command and its 10 museums.
On Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, scientists from the command's Underwater Archaeology Branch will be available to answer questions, as well as talk about the Howell torpedo conservation, an underwater video of the area just offshore from the Normandy beach, and computerized 3D representations of artifacts recovered from CSS Alabama and USS Housatonic.
