The Letter From Mother of RT2c Clarence W. Donnor

Clarence W. Donnor letter
Caption: A copy of a letter from the mother of RT2c Clarence W. Donnor to the Chief of Naval Personnel advising him that contrary to the telegram she received notifying her that her son was missing in action, she had spoken with him and received mail posted by him since the date on which her son ostensibly went missing. The letter is included in Donnor's official military personnel file (OMPF) along with a copy of the Navy's telegram and a reply to the above letter from the Navy apologizing for the mistake. Donnor's OMPF was obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration by Naval History and Heritage Command Historian Richard Hulver, Ph.D. as part of his review of the Navy's official accounting of the personnel losses from the July 30, 1945 sinking of heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis (CA 35). (Released with Mrs. Donnor's Address Redacted)
