Caption: 181108-N-GK939-0007 WASHINGTON (NNS) (Nov. 8, 2018) A USN-marked padlock recovered from the wreck of the armored cruiser USS San Diego is on display at the USS San Diego exhibit at the National Museum of the U.S. Navy. San Diego is the only major warship lost by the United States during World War I. The site serves as a stark reminder of how close enemy action came to the American coast during the war and serves as the final resting place of the six Sailors who lost their lives in service to their country.
