General Cornwallis' Troops Landing in New Jersey, 20 November 1776
Title: General Cornwallis' Troops Landing in New Jersey, 20 November 1776
Caption: The landing of the British forces in the Jerseys on 20 November 1776 under the command of the Right Honorable Lieutenant General Earl Cornwallis. This watercolor drawing was among the effects of the Marquis of Hastings, a grandson of Lord Rawdon, who, as a royal engineering officer under Cornwallis, may have been the artist. The royal troops, in long boats from their transports, are headed for the very spot on the palisades shore where the George Washington Bridge now has its far abutment. Some of the boats have sails and they are linked by cables. Note the paired cannon, the anchored boats, and the rifles of the soldiers seated in the boats.
