Title: Corpsman Second Class William W. Strader
Caption: U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman Second Class, serving in the Mekong Delta region of South Vietnam, is adopting little Mai, this Vietnamese girl from the orphanage in Can Tho, Vietnam. Strader, who is from Emporium, Pennsylvania, visits the orphanage on off duty hours twice a week, treating the sick and distributing food and other supplies he buys with donations from fellow Navy men. The adoption process is a lengthy one for Americans in the combat zone, but Petty Officer Strader knows the value of patience in Vietnam. June 1969.
