Caption: A Marine A-4 Skyhawk made the first landing at Chu Lai when the strip was only 3500 feet long. The total length of the strip after completion was 8000 feet. Tailhook is extended to catch mobile arresting gear designed to stop planes in 130 feet. Photo taken in June 1965 by Photographer's Mate Airman R.L. Dukes.
