Caption: Some 3000 Thai and U.S. Marines assaulted southern Thailand beaches March 20 in the final phase of exercise Jungle Drum 111. The exercise phased into a major Thai counterinsurgency exercise named Kitti, or was conducted jointly by the two nations to train military units in planning and executing combined amphibious operations. Jungle Drum 111 involved 39 ships and more than 10,000 men from two countries. U.S. Marines load into a Mike boat from a Seventh Fleet amphibious ship for beach assault. Photo received April 1965.
