Caption: Photographed early in her career, probably in the mid-1880s. This ship was purchased while building, being originally the merchant ship British Crown. The data with the original print lists the ship as carrying 8 2nd class torpedo boats, 30 whitehead torpedoes, and 5-64 pdr., 1-40pdr., 6 nordenflet 1-in. and 2 Gatling guns.
