Caption: Launching, at the Consolidated Shipbuilding Corp. Yard, New York on 30 January 1944. She was christened by Mrs. Joseph G. Feeney of Scranton Pennsylvania, wife of Lieutenant Junior Grade Joseph G. Feeney, USNR, who was then convalescing from injuries suffered when his merchant was torpedoed and sunk in March 1943. He was awarded the Navy Cross for bravery in that action.
