Caption: This emblem, seen here on a plaque, was received in 1970. It features a sailor at the helm, representing the navy steering toward the fulfillment of its mission. His shaded face symbolizes duty, day and night. The helm is painted in the national colors of Vietnam, red and yellow, and contains Vietnamese words for "honor, discipline, talent, virtue, and country." The compass rose represents the navy's intended mobility, and the anchor stands for its strength. The dark and light blue shades used symbolize the deep sea and inland waters branches of the service. The phrases "Hai Quan Vietnam" and "Ham-Doi" respectively mean "Vietnamese Navy" and "Fleet Command."
