NH 70032-KN Insignia: USS VANCOUVER (LPD-2)

Insignia: USS VANCOUVER (LPD-2)
Title: Insignia: USS VANCOUVER (LPD-2)
Caption: This emblem (seen here as an embroidered patch), adopted in 1962, features as its crest a sailing ship, symbolic of the explorations of George Vancouver, for whom the city of Vancouver, Washington, was named. The depiction of Fort Vancouver and the mountains behind are taken from the city's seal. The water in the foreground typifies this city's close association with the sea. The lightning bolt and sword symbolize rapid striking power. The helmet and sword represent the Vikings, first of the modern amphibians.
