NH 70030-KN Insignia: USS GARRETT COUNTY (LST-786)

Insignia: USS GARRETT COUNTY (LST-786)
Title: Insignia: USS GARRETT COUNTY (LST-786)
Caption: This emblem (seen here as an embroidered patch), received from the ship in 1970, symbolizes the ship's missions and the origin of her name. The five chevron-divisions of the shield represent the five mountain ranges that run across Garrett County, Maryland. Above is the blue of the sea, with the trident of sea power. The flowers are black-eyed Susans, state flower of Maryland. The ram's head refers to Garrett County's pre-eminence as a sheep-raising area. The motto, translated "ever faithful," is that of several families in the county.
