William F. Bringle, Vice Admiral, USN
Title: William F. Bringle, Vice Admiral, USN
Caption: Portrait photo. Vice Admiral Bringle graduated from the Naval Academy on 3 June 1937. He served three years aboard USS SARATOGA (CV-3) and entered flight training and earned his wings in December 1940. In December 1943, he formed the First Observation Fighting Squadron (VOF-1) of World War II. He served in various capacities after the war and became, in 1953, Executive Officer of USS HORNET (CV-12). In 1955 he was selected to be naval aide to the secretary of the Navy. In 1957 he commanded Heavy Attack Wing Two. In June 1958 he returned to the Naval Academy as Commandant of Midshipmen. He was the first Commanding Officer of USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63) in 1961. After that, he held various staff and command shore assignments. On 12 July 1965 he became Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Operations to CINCPACFLT from which he became Commander U.S. Seventh Fleet.
