Caption: This emblem, adopted in 1967, was designed by the ship's company and dependents. Representing the role of the environmental research ship, the insignia symbolizes both electronic and hydrographic research (the atom and dolphin), and reflects its own likeness and namesake (a palm tree). This embroidered patch was received from the ship in 1969.
