Caption: Stipple engraving by Ridley. Published in the "Naval Chronicle," Vol. V, by Bunney and Gold, London, 1801. William Locker (1731-1800): Entered Royal Navy, 1746; Lieutenant, 1756; Captain, 1768. In 1777-1779, Locker commanded HMS LOWESTOFT in the West Indies. Horatio Nelson, a midshipman of that ship, received much of his early training at that time.
