Title: Insignia: USS RIVAL (MSO-468)
Caption: Insignia received in 1962. The design symbolizes the missions assigned to MSOs. The blue outline of the shield and the anchor flukes represent water and seapower. The yellow lances are symbolic of the "Iron Men in Wooden Ships" who are members of the minesweeping force. The ever present dangers of minesweeping are represented by the red of the shield, while the color and outline of the yellow section indicate the explosive force of mines. The RIVAL's Latin motto is translated: "None Can Surpass."
