Title: Insignia: USS WIDGEON (MSCO-20)
Caption: This insignia was received by the Naval History Division in 1959. Its design was selected from a number submitted by various members of the crew and other sources. The final design was prepared by a heraldic artist and modified by the wife of one of the ship's officers. The date of its adoption is not known. The design is based on the general rules of heraldry. A widgeon-type duck is shown holding the outline on an "O" type sweep. The blue field and gold outline are used as the traditional colors of the Navy. Other colors were chosen for esthetic reasons and to provide proper contrast.
