Title: Insignia: USS TACONIC (AGC-17)
Caption: This insignia was received by the Naval History Division in 1958. The mountains in the upper quarter (left) are symbolic of the Taconic Mountains for which the ship is named. The stars represent the Navy and Marine Corps flag officers normally embarked on an AGC during landing operations. The lightning bolts represent the ship's communications role. The Latin motto: "The voice of the commanders," denotes the basic mission of an AGC.
