Admiral Nimitz Awards the Navy Cross to Harold Dixon, Aviation Chief Machinist Mate
Navy Aviation Pilot, for bringing a rubber life-raft safely to Pukapuka Island with shipmates after a 34-day trip under a hot, tropical sun with very little food and water after his Navy bomber had been forced down at sea. The ceremony was aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CV-6) at Pearl harbor, March 1942. Their voyage took them 750 miles.
