Caption: Extracted lines from San Francisco Chronicle, 15 Dec. 1954. It is rare indeed when you get a crew of crusty admirals pulling together at the oars. Lord Louis Mountbatten, who is seated in the stern of the boat, Valetta Grand Harbor, Malta. He relinquished command of Allied Forces, Mediterranean, to become First Sea Lord of Britain. The admirals who tendered their farewell by rowing him across the bay to HMS SURPRISE, are L to R: Louis Mornu of France, Marco Calamei of Italy, George Zepos of Greece, Sheres Karapiner of Turkey, Peter Cazalet of England, and James Fife of U.S.
