Caption: Which, when built, bore the following inscription, in English: "Dedicated to and erected in honor of the citizens of the United States of America, our friends across the seas. May there be eternal friendship between the two peoples. Sio-Tze-Heng, September, 1921." This inscription was later chiseled out and replaced with Chinese characters. View taken circa 1930s.
