Caption: At the Office of the Chief of the Bureau of Navigation, circa 30 June 1934. The mace was returned to Canada by Presidential Order. From a Navy press release of 30 June 1934: "By direction of the President of the United States, the mace of the Parliament of Upper Canada, or Ontario, which was taken during the War of 1812, and which has been in the custody of the United States Navy for over 120 years, is to be returned to the Canadian Government on July 4th, at Toronto, Canada.Admiral Leahy, as Chief of Naval Operations, broadcasts to the nation over N.B.C. on Navy Day, 23 October 1938, in Washington, D.C."
