Caption: 3rd assistant engineer 26 February 1851, 2nd assistant engineer 21 May 1853, 1st assistant engineer 9 May 1857, chief engineer 29 July 1861, retired 1 December 1887, died at his home in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on 27 June 1897. During the Civil War he served 1860 to October 1864 in USS HARTFORD. Served two tours as fleet engineer in the Pacific fleet following the Civil War. From 1865 to 1868 was on special duty at Newburg New York as part of Rear Admiral Gregory's ironclad steamer program. He also served as fleet engineer on the European station 1881-82. He also served as a member of the board of examiners 1879-80.
