Caption: Naval Observatory as it appeared to an artist in 1894. Visible at upper right, beyond the Administration Building and Library, is the house formerly designated as quarters for the Observatory Superintendant, but now assigned, by law, to the Chief of Naval Operations. The two buildings at lower left were moved to the present site from the old site of the Depot of Charts and Instruments, and at the turn of the century housed Offices and Observers Living Quarters for the Magnetic Observatory underground nearby.
