Caption: Headquarter detachment and sentries at Ecole des Filles on the outskirts of Algiers in 1943. Ecole des Filles was the building where all the staff and clerical work for 8th Fleet was done. Admiral H. Kent Hewitt, Commander U.S. Naval Forces, Northwest African Waters (8th Fleet), and his chief of staff had their own offices in the city proper. Taken circa 1943.
