Title: USS S-48 (SS-159) 1922-1944.
Caption: Launching of USS S-48, 28 February 1921. Regarded as the "last word" in submarine construction, she is double hulled and constructed as to withstand the water pressure of 200 feet, submergence, and is especially designed for protection against depth charge shock. The radio apparatus is designed to work either under or above water. Her battery will consist of 5 21 inch torpedo tubes, four forward and one aft, and one four inch gun.
