Title: Wreckage of R-9 (BuNo A-312)
Caption: Which crashed in a "side slip" resulting in fire and explosion of gasoline tanks, 25 February 1918, and death for pilot Ensign Walker Reed and observer BTS J.W. Bennett, of injuries sustained from the burning wreckage. Ensign Reed, after climbing out of the fire, heroically returned to the burning mass to rescue the observer who was helpless, and both perished.
