Caption: A U.S. Navy Hovercraft passes a Vietnamese junk at the month of the Saigon River in South Vietnam. This is one of the three "Air Cushion" Vehicles being tested for use in Air-Sea Rescue, emergency supply and medical evacuation missions. The craft are also used to patrol for communist vessels attempting to run arms to the Viet Cong Riding on a Cushion of air and driven forward by a pusher-type airplane propeller, the hovercraft can pursue suspected vessels across shallow waters and can go onto the beach if necessary.
