Photo #: 80-G-252257 Normandy Invasion, June 1944
Title: Normandy Invasion, June 1944
Description: Explosion just behind Utah Beach, during the first days of the Normandy operation, circa 6-8 June 1944. This blast probably results from efforts to remove German land mines. British LCT-996 is at the extreme right, stranded by low tide. British LCT-799 is alongside, just to the left, and several other landing craft are also present. Note stakes in the foreground, possibly marking the positions of underwater obstructions. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
