Photographed off the Normandy beachhead on 7 June 1944, the day after the Allies first landed there, assisted by Arkansas's gunfire. Written atop the turret's 12/50 gun barrels are (left) Hitler's and (right) Downfall. Note: lookouts, with binoculars, by the rangefinder at right; crewmen's working jackets, with hoods; and men limbering up with a medicine ball beside Turret One, in the upper left.
