Description: The collection consists of 25 photographs from the USS Thetis (1881) and its time in Alaska during the 1880s. Images show indigenous peoples from Point Barrow, Cape Blossom, and Cape of Prince Wales. Images from the Bering Strait show King's Island, St. Michael Island, Cook Inlet, and the rescue of the schooner Jane Gray. Additional images show Thetis at Wellington, British Columbia; Mayne Harbor in the Straits of Magellan; Juneau, Alaska; Sitka, Alaska; Brooklyn; Mare Island in 1888.
