NHF-004 Battle of Midway Collection

Battle of Midway Collection This collection contains a number of photographs which show various aspects of the Battle of Midway, 4-6 June, 1942. The donor/owner is unidentified. The quality of these photographs is generally good, with a couple of double-exposures and some grainy long-distance shots. The photos are uncaptioned, and many (if not all) appear to be copies of National Archives images. The ships seen in these views include: USS ASTORIA (CA-34); USS PORTLAND (CA-33); USS YORKTOWN; USS HAMMANN (DD-412). These views also include damage to YORKTOWN; YORKTOWN under AIR ATTACK; view of crew preparing to abandon on YORKTOWN; HAMMAN going down alongside YORKTOWN. Also one view included in this collection shows TF.17 (ENTERPRISE- group) en route to the Battle as seen from USS PENSACOLA (CA-25), on 4 JUNE 1942.
