After the capture of the H.M.S. Detroit and Caledonia, the British at Fort Erie kept a constant fire on the shipbuilding operations at Black Rock, New York, forcing the carpenters to flee.  Chauncey sent some to Sackets Harbor, New York, where they built the brig U.S.S. Madison and other vessels.
