As fires rage on board USS Yorktown, the ship, with its escort USS Hammonn is viewed through the periscope of a Japanese submarine.  The underwater enemy is able to launch several torpedoes hitting both ships.  The destroyer sank in four minutes while the aircraft went to its watery grave the following day.
