Naval History and Heritage Command

The efforts in the recruitment and promotion as well as a greater commitment to true integration of the armed service began to see a broadening of roles for African Americans and the rise of more African American officers into the higher reaches of the Navy. These accomplishments large and small have made African Americans an integral and important part of the Navy.
