In May 1975, about a month after the fall of Phnom Penh in Cambodia to Communists, the Khmer Rouge seized the American freighter SS Mayaguez in disputed waters off Cambodia.  Unites States forces sent to the rescue included USS Harold E. Holt (DE-1074), USS Coral Sea (CV-43) and USS Henry B. Wilson (DDG-7).  In the midst of actions which have been debated, 41 Americans died while the Khmer Rouge was concurrently releasing the crew and the ship.
