12^th Chief of Naval Operations: 2 November 1949 – 22 July 1951

Following the resignation of Admiral Denfeld, President Truman appointed Forrest P. Sherman as CNO.  It was his task to maintain morale during Department of Defense organization, which threatened naval aviation and Navy’s role in the development of nuclear capabilities.
