Paragon, a steel-hulled, twin-screw motor yacht built in 1915 at City Island, N.Y., by Robert Jacob, had been renamed Sybilla III prior to the Navy acquiring the vessel under free lease from John F. Betz of Philadelphia, Pa., and, having been given the identification number S. P. 104, was commissioned on 14 May 1917.
During the Great War [world War I], Sybilla III was assigned to section patrol duty in the Seventh Naval District. She was returned to her owner and stricken from the Navy Register on 24 December 1918, the day before Christmas.
