Northampton I (S.P. 670)

1917-1919

The first Northampton retained the name she carried at the time of her acquisition by the Navy.

(S.P. 670: length 38'0" (overall); beam 11'0"; draft 1'6" (mean); speed 8 miles per hour; armament 1 1-pounder)

The first Northampton (S.P. 670), a wooden hulled motor boat built by Wilson of Birdsnest, Va., was acquired by the Navy on free lease from John A. Parsons, Norfolk, Va., and commissioned on 24 April 1917.

Assigned to the Fifth Naval District, Northampton operated on section patrol duties until returned to her owner on 19 December 1918.
