Caption: At anchor in the Orinoco River at Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela, during the ship's exploratory cruise up the Orinoco, January 1899. Note stevedoring to the merchant ship. This was the most inland point reached by the USS WILMINGTON (PG-8). The Orinoco was not navigable by ship shortly beyond this point.
