Title: SS CARTAGENA (1894)
Caption: Built by Orlando, Leghorn as a gunboat with VIP accommodations in 1892 or 1894. First served in The Moroccan Navy as BESCHIRES SALAMEH (usually rendered EL BASCHIR). Sold to The Colombian Navy in 1902 as CARTAGENA (often listed as ALMIRANTE LEZO). On disbandment of this navy, she was sold in 1916 to a New York firm, Pedro Tatanis, who owned her when she was inspected for possible USN Service on 31 Dec. 1917. She was found unsuitable for USN use. The photo probably dates from the inspection.
