Caption: Lithograph by L.W. Bradford & Co., Boston, 1854. Mugford commanded Continental Schooner Franklin when she captured the British Transport Hope in Navtasket Roads, Massachusetts, 17 May 1776. This action is shown in the Vignette on the plate. Two days later, on 19 May, he was killed in action with a British cutting out party.
