1960 - Ship Rescues

On 27 January 1960, USS Haverfield (DE-393) returned three Indonesians to Ternate, Indonesia.  They were rescued the previous month and spent 74 days adrift at sea and were hospitalized at U.S. Naval Hospital, Guam.

USS Tioga County (LST-1158) on February 2, 1960, rescued nine Chinese fishermen from a sinking boat near Luzon, Philippine Islands.

On December 22, 1960, USS Valley Forge (CVS-45) rescued 28 crewmen of the sinking tanker Pine Ridge off Cape Hatteras.  The men were lifted over stormy seas by helicopter.
