Manatee (S. P. 51), a wooden‑hulled gas‑powered motorboat, was built by Brown Bros. Shipyard, Tottenville, Staten Island, N.Y., in 1915; acquired by the Navy from her owner J.B. Fallon 21 April 1917; and placed in naval service 23 April 1917. Following America's entry into World War I, Manatee was assigned to distant service in European waters where she supported a flying boat detachment. After the Armistice, she was presumably returned to the United States. As of 1 July 1920 her name no longer appeared on the Navy list.
